My trip to Italy was a very profound part of my life I learned many things about other cultures, history and myself. It was the greatest learning experience of my life. When I signed up for the trip last year I considered it a once in a lifetime experience. Now I’d like to make it a twice in a lifetime one. It was an event I want to repeat as many times as possible. Now that I have seen that I can raise the money and pay for the trip I’m sure that I can do it again. I know that in the end I’ll never want to see another candy bar ever again, but that will at least make my diet healthier.
The main reason I signed up last year was to prove to myself that I could do it. I could go three weeks without my family and I could make new friends. I could walk ten miles without giving up and I could live in a house with people that were almost complete strangers. Moat important I learned that while doing all these things that I can have fun at the same time. Since I have proven that I can do all of this next time I can focus more on having twice as much fun. I’ll be more relaxed because I’m not always worried that I might not be able to do something.
Several people grumbled constantly that we spent too much time in museums, but I didn’t mind. I will admit that some museums were a lot more interesting that others though. I love history and art can be interesting, unless it’s modern. Mrs. Hott was constantly telling us that it wasn’t a vacation, but if I went on vacation that’s exactly how I would spend it if it was. To me it was the best vacation anyone could wish for and the most educational. Who ever knew that you could lean as much as we did in three weeks and have so much fun doing.
I loved so many aspects of Italy. I especially loved the food. It’s so much better then American food and it’s seems lighter. It doesn’t sit as heavily on your stomach. I stayed with a great family and Edo and I became great friends. The Italians in general were some of the most hospitable and polite that I’ve ever met. If you ever needed anything they would insist on getting for you. When I heard that Edo was coming back with the exchange in September I was ecstatic. It just made me want to be part of the exchange again even more then before I heard.
For those who don’t know me very well, I tell a little about myself. I live outside of Green Spring with my parents and sister. Erin will be going off to college soon. (I can’t wait.) I have two dogs, a rabbit, a goat, and several cats. I play alto saxophone and flute in our school band and jazz band. I’m also the secretary for the Springfield Jr. EMS.
