Seeing new places, meeting new people, learning the differences in cultures not by a text-book, but with a more hands on approach. Only a fraction of the reasons I wish to participate in the “Italian Exchange” next year. I believe going to Italy would be an extraordinary adventure for me. I have never been outside the US boarders and really believe this would be unforgettable experience. I have never had the change to be involved in other cultures. Yes, I’m partially Spanish, but never has that been involved in my heritage. I grew up in the American culture. If I were chosen to go I would finally be able see how other cultures are. I would get the chance to explore a new country I would be able to see what other teenagers do in their free time half way across the world. I would also get the chance to learn a new language other than English and German which I enjoyed lol. I would be able to communicate with other people and see things that I may never see again. Try new foods that I have never tasted. And create memories that I would never forget.

Now for the person that I would be hosting. I believe that I would be able to show this person the American Culture. I would be able to show them things that they might have not seen in their country. They would be able to experience new foods and drinks. They would be able to see them American Country more than with they see on TV, magazines, ECT. Now for a more serious note, I know there are numerous feelings and emotions towards Americans because of the war were are in. I’m not saying the exchange student that I will be hosting will have these feelings, but I would be able to show them that Americans are outgoing fun-loving people just like everyone else.

So, now a little about myself. My name full Name is Pedro Antonio Martinez. My friends just call my Pete. I’m a very outgoing person. I play soccer all year around. Rec-Ball in the spring/summer, I play for my high school in the fall, indoor in the winter. Soccer is my life. I have a girlfriend her name is Jasmine Miller I have been with her for the last 4 years. I also like video games xbox, ps2, game cube, the works. We live in the outskirts of Romney in a pretty good size home. I have loving family. I live with my grandparents; their names are Sally/Melvin Nazelrod. My mother name is Tammy Tenorio and my sister’s names are Blanco and Leticia. But, they live in Florida. I was born in Florida but my grandparents took me and I have been living happily with them ever since. I and my mother aren’t that close, but she is my mother and I love her. I have 2 dogs named Beethoven and Shiloh, and a 26 pound cat name George. Yes 26 pounds no typo. Currently I have short hair, but by the time of the exchange I will probably have my large afro back.

Finally, I would like to say for me to be able to participate in this exchange would be an honor. I would be able to learn first hand the differences of people and their cultures, but more importantly than that I would be able to see how we really all aren’t that much different. We might worship different gods. We might eat different food. We might dress differently and have different color skins but underneath all that we are all the same. I believe this would be more than exchanging students. It would be an exchanging of lives.
