My name is Katelyn P. I live in Augusta, West Virginia. In my spare time I like to read about just about everything, but especially about new places and ideas. I am willing to try just about everything. Though you do not hear this much, I actually enjoy coming to school and going to work in the evenings. I like watching medical and crime shows on television, especially CSI, Cold Case, and House. I enjoy looking up instances of criminal psychology on the internet. Though only a Sophomore, I already have plans for the future. I intend to carry on my education, and one day become a doctor. I hope to participate in the Italian Exchange for the year 2006. Since I will be a Junior next year, it might be the last chance I have, since seniors will no longer be able to go in 2007.
I believe the Italian trip would benefit me in several ways.
I have already been to Europe once, in an exchange between Hampshire County Middle schools and Gregor-Mendel Gymnasim in Amberg, Germany. The town of Amberg is only a few hours drive from Munich, by way of the famous Autobahn. While in Germany, I was introduced to new foods and ideas. Luckily, I was able to tour some of the large and historical cities. I viewed the cities of Regansburg and Nuremberg. This experience left me with memories that will last a life time, and helped me gain friendships with people I would never normally have contact with. My friendship with the German students lasts even until today, as we communicate with each other regularly. The memories I have of Germany are wonderful ones. I would like to explore more of Europe, and perhaps visit these places again someday.
The trip would broaden my horizons. Here in Hampshire County, cultural opportunities are limited. I can safely say that to visit there again would be a wonderful experience for me. The trip would let me see a new culture on a day to day basis. Living with an Italian family would let me view their life, and the way they do things differently. It would be nice to see a new way of doing things. Also, attending school in Italy would let me view the differences in the educational systems of Europe and America.
Being a person who fully appreciates history, Europe was a wonderful place for me. While American history is rich, who can compare a Revolutionary War battle field with Roman Bridges that are such an example of architecture that they are still in use today? If I do get the chance to participate in the Italian Exchange, I look foreword to seeing more of European history, the castles, churches, and Medieval cities. I look forward to learning more about the European culture, the legends and lore that differ greatly from area to area.
I also believe that I would benefit the Italian trip. I am a person who is very open to new ideas. I would try every Italian thing that I could to gain a new experience. Also, being a honors student, I would have no problem in making up any of the work that I would miss. I have no terrible vices like smoking or drinking, that would reflect badly on our school. My behavior is also excellent.
These are some of the reasons I should be selected for the Italian exchange trip. I can only hope I will get the wonderful opportunity to travel with the Italian exchange in 2006.
