The history of America is one of deep bloodshed, the forests and hills painted with the crimson blood of British, Indians, and Americans. Italy has a glorious and beautiful history, one of culture and dignity. I am not one for foreign languages but the thought of going to Europe for a learning experience was quite an eye opener for me. I am quite excited by the thought of actually seeing with my own eyes the history of Italy instead of listening to a narrator speak of the great triumphs and tragedies in Europe. I realized that this trip is made for students to have fun and learn at the same time.

I think that I am a prime candidate for this trip because I can be an attentive listener and enjoy myself at the same time. The cultural differences between our two countries seem to be vast different and quite intriguing to my mind. My sister participated in this field trip when she was a student in this school. When she came back, she had many stories to tell of how different Italy was than anything here, as well as what a great time she had on the trip. Although that didn’t persuade me to come it helped me make my decision. I made up my mind when I saw the pictures of the previous trips to Italy. When I heard from other people who had went on the trip had enjoyed staying with an Italian family and learned their way of life and saw how different they were from us I was intrigued and decided to look into it. After many discussions and inquiries to Mrs. Hott I decided that I would much like to spend time in Europe with the group.

I know to be on my best behavior while over seas because I will be representing my school and what I do over there reflects on how the citizens feel about us as a group. I haven’t ever gotten after school detention or been suspended. I am a good student that plans on going to college and have a job suitable to my needs and wants, and I think that this will be a great learning experience and help me with such things as speaking in front of a large group of people, social skills, culture, and international history. These such skills should be increased if I go to Italy due to the itinerary already made up by the teachers.

I think that I should be chosen to go on the Italian exchange this year because I have all the criteria needed and I will be able to do the homework that I will miss fairly rapidly because of my very easy second semester including only one chore class. I believe that such things should be considered because students should be chosen for their criteria and their ability to get their work done in a timely fashion. In addition to learning the history of Europe and expanding my cultural horizons, I hope to increase my base of experience in foreign languages.
